Interlocking System Design

Whether a new plant is built utilizing a new state-of-the-art control system or control system upgrade is installed at an existing plant. A systematic design for the necessary machine, process and control interlocking schematic is necessary to ensure a safe and efficient operation of the equipment through the PCS (Process Control System).

FraMisUS, LLC offers the development of interlocking schematics either for single machinery (mill drive system, main gearboxes,...) or entire grinding plants.

The interlocking schematic is developed in several layers unless otherwise specified by the customer:

  • Human Field Operator / Single Machine safety interlocking (field hardwired or always active; will not allow a machine start or will stop the machine immediately regardless the mode of operation being local/single/automatic)
  • Single Machine operational interlocking (active when machine is in single or automatic operation, de-active in local operation; will not allow a start of or stop the equipment)
  • Single Machine start-up interlocking (active when machine is in single or automatic operation, de-active in local operation; will not allow a start of the equipment but will not stop the equipment during operation)
  • Machine-to-machine interlocking (defines the start/stop sequencing of equipment within the same machine group and will stop "downstream" equipment when "upstream" equipment stops)
  • Group-to-group interlocking (defines the start/stop sequencing of equipment groups within a system and will stop "downstream" groups when "upstream" groups stop)
  • Process control interlocking (either by means of control loops which adjust the main process values independent of the human operator or by stopping system parts in case of major deviations)
  • Start-up/Shut-down sequencing that allows one-button starts / shut downs of the entire systems or parts thereof as specified by the customer

The provided schematics will cover the entire system implementing all sub-suppliers interlocking request but in addition taking care of all interfaces between sub-suppliers.

The visualization of the interlocking schematic will be done according to customer specifications e.g. by using Siemens standards in Visio-format, verbal descriptions, Ladder logic diagrams,...
